Mala and Coki tore down Brixton Mass last weekend with a brand new unreleased dub. Witnesses say the bass was so heavy the walls were literally shaking. If you weren't there, you missed out. Keep your eyes on the DMZ mailing list for the next date. Word is they're pressing limited white labels soon -- grab one before they're gone forever.

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London, England, in the late 1990s. It emerged from the UK garage scene and draws influence from Jamaican sound system culture, drum and bass, and 2-step.

Key characteristics include tempo of around 138-142 BPM (though the bar is often half-stepped at 69-71 BPM), powerful sub-bass frequencies, sparse, off-beat rhythms, and a dark, minimalistic sound palette.

Key venues: Forward>> (Plastic People, Shoreditch), DMZ (Brixton Mass), and pirate radio stations like Rinse FM and Sub FM were crucial to the scene's development.
